A note on privacy & how AI works in this app

Emotion Stamp is primarily local-first — your journal, stamps, history, and biometric data all live on your device. When you stamp a mood and request an AI reflection, a scrubbed, anonymised data packet is securely transmitted to our AI (xAI Grok) via Firebase. Firebase is used solely as a secure API key vault and relay — your personal journal content is never stored on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Privacy & Data

Is my emotional data private?

Yes. Your journal entries, mood stamps, notes, and voice recordings are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. Voice transcription and PII (personally identifiable information) scrubbing happen on-device before any data leaves your phone.

Does Emotion Stamp use the cloud or is it fully on-device?

Emotion Stamp is primarily local-first — your journal, history, and biometric context all live on your device. However, when you stamp a mood and request an AI reflection, an anonymised, scrubbed data packet is securely sent to our AI model via Firebase. Firebase is used to securely store and call the API key at the moment of stamping — your raw personal content is never stored on external servers beyond what is needed to generate your reflection.

What data is sent to Firebase?

Only anonymised, PII-scrubbed context packets are transmitted — this includes your mood value, timestamp, and scrubbed environmental context (e.g. weather, general location). Your actual journal text, names, and personal details are stripped on-device before transmission. Firebase is used purely as a secure key vault and relay — it does not store your personal journal data.

Does Emotion Stamp sell or share my data?

Never. We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising. We do not use third-party analytics trackers. Your data is yours.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

All locally stored data — stamps, journal entries, voice notes, history — is permanently deleted when you remove the app. We do not maintain cloud backups of your personal journals.

AI Reflections

How does the AI reflection work?

When you stamp a mood, Emotion Stamp builds an anonymised context packet on-device (your mood, biometric snapshot, scrubbed notes, and relevant past stamps). This packet is securely sent to our AI model via Firebase. The AI generates a personalised reflection based on your chosen tone — Gentle, Gen Z, Stoic, Motivational, or Group Chat.

Which AI model powers the reflections?

Emotion Stamp uses xAI's Grok model to generate reflections. All transmissions use an anonymised "super-prompt" architecture designed to protect your identity.

Is the AI response stored anywhere?

No. AI reflections are generated in real-time and saved locally on your device as part of your stamp record. They are not stored on our servers.

Can I use Emotion Stamp offline?

Yes — your history, charts, and past stamps are fully accessible offline. AI reflections require an internet connection as they involve a secure call to the Grok API via Firebase.

Is the AI reflection medical advice?

No. All AI-generated reflections are observational and for personal journaling purposes only. Emotion Stamp is not a clinical tool and does not provide medical or psychological diagnosis. Please see a qualified professional if you need mental health support.

Subscriptions & Billing

What does Reflections+ include?

Reflections+ unlocks Voice Journaling, unlimited AI reflections, advanced AI personas, and premium features as they are released. Free users receive a limited number of AI reflections per day.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel anytime through your iPhone's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Emotion Stamp. Cancelling stops future renewals; you retain access until the end of your billing period.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us directly. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, find your Emotion Stamp purchase, and request a refund. Apple typically processes refund requests within a few days.

My subscription isn't restoring — what do I do?

Open Emotion Stamp → Settings → Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. If the issue persists, contact us at hello@emotionstamp.com.

Technical & App Issues

The app is crashing — what should I do?

First, try force-closing the app and reopening it. If the issue persists, check that your iOS is up to date, then delete and reinstall the app. Note: reinstalling will delete your local data. If the problem continues, email us at hello@emotionstamp.com with your device model and iOS version.

My Heart Rate / HRV data isn't showing up.

Emotion Stamp reads biometric data from Apple Health. Go to iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Emotion Stamp and ensure Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability are toggled on. You also need at least one recent Health reading for the data to appear.

Why isn't location / weather context showing?

Go to iPhone Settings → Emotion Stamp → Location and set it to 'While Using'. Also ensure Location Services are enabled globally in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

Voice journaling isn't transcribing correctly.

Make sure you have granted microphone and speech recognition permissions in iPhone Settings → Emotion Stamp. Speak clearly in a quiet environment. Transcription happens on-device using Apple's Speech framework and may vary by accent.
